Autum Update

As we move into the autumn here is an update re the bar and forthcoming social events, also a huge thank you to all the many members and the wider community who have been to the events at the club over the spring, summer and early autumn, it's been such fun!

The bar will remain downstairs for the moment, it will continue to be opened by our Bar Manager Con O'Connor on Wednesday evenings and by Bar volunteers on Fridays, opening hours will continue to be from 6.30pm until 11pm unless a lack of customers leads to earlier closing! The marquee has now come down so we will be in the clubhouse with as much ventilation as we can create. We can ensure good air circulation downstairs, it is not quite as good upstairs, however those coming to the bar can of course sit where they would like to sit, up or down stairs or outside if the weather is kind. We would ask that all of us coming to bar nights and other social events leave all the windows and doors open so we can be sure of the best air circulation, the heating will be on, we will need to bear with some drafts!

Trafalgar Night on Friday October 22nd, 18.30 for dinner at 19.15, is the next date in the social calendar, we have Shirley Floyd ready to cook us another of her lovely dinners, our speaker will be Mac Armstrong who has promised that there will be nothing medical in the content of the talk! At present the committee has agreed to make a decision the week before about whether this will be an in person at the club event or be held virtually as we did last year. An email with the menu will be with you all later this week, please note the booking instructions as we do not want to take any money from you until we are sure it will go ahead at the club.

The AGM is on Saturday November 6th, 6.30pm, it will be via Zoom. Details in the AGM page.

We then have a Rum Tasting Evening on Saturday November 20th, consultation with rum officionardos is in progress, there will be nibbles to go with each rum, more details nearer the time!

Our first winter talk is scheduled for Friday December 10th, 7.30pm, a club supper before the talk will be available, we have several suggested speakers we are approaching so it's a mystery at the moment which one it will be! The winter talks then continue through January, February and into March.

Last but not least the CYC Christmas Party! Wednesday December 22nd, 6pm onwards, won't it be good to be able to be gathering together to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas festivities rather than waving to each other on a screen! Jason and Nicola will be behind the bar, the decorations will be sparkling as will the tree, further details nearer the time of course.

I hope many of you will come and join in these sociable occasions!

Take care,

Jill
