CYC and Covid-19 - update 2

In response to the Prime Minister's announcement yesterday, the Club is obliged to further curtail activities.

The Clubhouse must now be closed to Members in line with government instructions not to travel except to access healthcare, for food shopping, for exercise and travel to work where this cannot be avoided.

The Club grounds remain open for the purpose of exercise and for access to your boats where this is absolutely essential. However, please ensure a safe social distance of at least two metres.

Regrettably, the Clean-Up day scheduled for the 4th April has been postponed indefinitely. It is hoped that members will support a re-scheduled day when circumstances allow.

Many of you may find that your boats cannot be launched and so our sailing season may, at best, be short. The White Sail Series has been cancelled. The Sailing Instructions have already been prepared and it is hoped that a short Series will be possible towards the end of the season.

The Regatta, planned for the 12th September, may go ahead if restrictions are lifted by that time - further information will be sent during the next few months.

I am sorry to be the bearer of such a restrictive message but hopefully these measures will contribute to the protection of our healthcare workers and prevent the overwhelming of our NHS.

I am sure that I speak for all the Committee in hoping that you and your loved ones are able to stay safe and that we are all able to resume our normal activities as soon as possible.

John, Commodore, 24th March 2020.}

CYC and Covid-19 - update 1

This is a notice to update you on the Club's position following the Prime Minister's announcement this evening.

This epidemic is developing rapidly and our advice may change frequently.

We have been advised that all unnecessary social contact should be avoided.
This means that the Clubhouse will be closed for all unnecessary meetings and events and the Bar will be closed, probably for many weeks.

Members may still access the Club grounds for parking and access to their boats and access to the Clubhouse for toilet, washing and showering facilities.

However, please ensure that you maintain a 'social distance' of two metres and if you have symptoms compatible with Coronavirus infection you should NOT enter the Club grounds.

The Club's advice regarding the Cadets 'First-on-Water' evening planned for the 17th of April will be communicated later.

These measures may sound alarming but they will help limit the rapid rise in the number of new infections which will benefit us all.

With the very best wishes for your health and a positive spirit,
John, Commodore.

CYC and Covid-19

This is a notice to all members to inform you that the Club is monitoring and following National Advice on actions to be taken in relation to the Covid-19 epidemic.

In addition, although not part of national advice, I have taken the decision to postpone the Winter Talk scheduled for the 27th. This is because our usual audience comprises a high proportion of at-risk individuals and because there are now cases close to our geographical area.

The Clubhouse will remain open to members for the foreseeable future however, please bear the following in mind:

-it goes without saying that if you have symptoms compatible with Covid-19 you should not attend,

-please wash your hands with soap and water immediately on entering the Clubhouse and dispose of tissues carefully in the bin provided,

-lectures and talks will not be held,

-the Cadet section may continue as usual for the time being,

-the bar will remain open for the time being but only when bar staff NOT in the vulnerable group are available to serve,

-members in the vulnerable group (which includes those over the age of 70) who wish to use the bar are asked to carefully consider the risk to themselves,

-at present, it is our intention that the Clean-Up Day will go ahead but appropriate precautions will be taken to protect those in the vulnerable group.

John, Commodore. Sunday 15th March.
